Cindy Phillips

Cindy Phillips

Cindy is the Owner and Director of Island Yoga Space.

She discovered yoga in 1998 while searching for clarity after the loss of her father the previous year and thus views yoga as a healing art. This lead her to seek out and study with many teachers including Shiva Rea, Betsey Downing and her favorite, Seane Corn. She is grateful to ALL of the teachers who have graced and inspired her own teaching.  She started instructing yoga in 2002.

Cindy guides students in Vinyasa Flow and Restorative classes with particular attention to alignment.  While creatively interweaving underlying themes, poetry, and world music she encourages students to connect with their own personal core of “knowing” during practice and take this truth out into daily living.

By providing the island community with a comfortable and nurturing environment, she trusts that each student will find their inner strengths and overall well-being.

She holds a Bachelors degree in Humanities/ Performing Arts from Southern Oregon University, 200hr. Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Certification from White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara and a 200hr. Anusara Style Yoga Teacher Certification from Garden of the Heart Yoga Center in Sarasota. Cindy is a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.

Gail Condrick is a Nia Black Belt instructor, the highest teaching credential achieved by Nia teachers, who has been teaching Nia through out the country since 1998.   She has studied with the co-creators of the Nia Technique, Debbie Rosas Stewart and Carlos Aya Rosas at international Nia headquarters in Portland Oregon receiving her black belt in 2003.

In her years of teaching Nia she has experienced profound personal transformation in mind, body, and spirit and embodied what Nia calls a practice of “Dancing through Life.”   Nia has helped her navigate change and self-heal by sensing how it feels to be truly awake and alive in a body. At her first class she sensed deep emotional release, feeling for the first time that she was home and present in her body, a sensation she had not known was missing from her life.

Gail is dedicated to helping you claim joy and health through the natural healing movement of Nia.  Gail’s Nia classes are active, community building, musical, dancing barefoot joy and can be adapted to fit your Body’s Way of moving no matter your age or fitness level.

Leigh Ellen (Lia) Sontheimer

Leigh Ellen (Lia) Sontheimer

Leigh Ellen (Lia) Sontheimer is a yogini with a 15-year practice. As her practice deepened, moving from yoga classes at her workplace, to the yoga studio and a personal practice at home, she realized that she wanted to integrate yoga into her service as well as her personal life, and so starting in 2006 completed several teacher trainings in Washington DC, where she lived until August 2011.

She is a certified YogaEd (grades K-8) and Childplay Yoga instructor, and has taught yoga to children and at-risk teenage girls on both a professional and volunteer basis. In 2009 she completed the 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training program of Flow Yoga Center (www.flowyogacenter.com), which is where she practiced regularly. Her practice and teaching style is eclectic, based in the vinyasa (flow) style in which she was formally trained but strongly influenced by traditions that emphasize alignment and philosophy, such as Integral, Jivamukti and Anusara Yoga.

In addition to her yoga training, Leigh Ellen has a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Penn State, an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University, and a Post-graduate Diploma in Children, Youth and Development from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands. In addition to practicing yoga, her greatest delights are dancing; spending lots of time at the beach; discovering and enjoying good food, wine, and arts with family and friends; and traveling the world. Leigh Ellen began practicing yoga at the encouragement of her mother, and considers it one of the best of the many gifts her mother has given her - right up there with the gift of life. She literally would not want to live life without it, and her intent in her practice and teaching is to share with others the joy of transformation that comes from greater awareness and health in both body and spirit... ultimately, a re-introduction to one's true Self.

Rachel Weber

Rachel Weber

Rachel began practicing yoga in 2002, but it wasn’t until she moved to beautiful Anna Maria Island in January 2012 that she was inspired to follow her heart and become a yoga teacher.  She loves teaching many styles of yoga, including vinyasa flow, gentle yoga, chair yoga for those with mobility challenges, and yin yoga to target tight connective tissue.  She first teaches her students the importance of proper alignment, and then encourages the use of breath to focus the mind, while expressing their own beautiful version of each pose.

Rachel earned her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification at ReFlex Arts in Sarasota, as well as certification in Aerial Yoga and Chair Yoga for students with limited mobility.  She holds a Masters degree in Geology from the University of Oregon and completed her undergraduate work at the University of Washington.  Rachel is registered with Yoga Alliance at the RYT 200 level.

Marilyn Feinberg

Marilyn Feinberg

I began yoga in the early 90’s.  I was initially just looking for some relief from long term chronic pain that was slowly getting worse.  I found that relief and so much more. The ability of yoga to heal and balance my life has been and continues to be profound.  My first experiences were with Iyengar but, as the options grew in the late 90’s I moved on to a combination of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga.  Mark Whitwell was my major teacher along with several intensives with Angela Farmer and Victor VanKooten, Tom Meyers and Leslie Kaminoff.  I also studied Vedic chanting with Sonia Nelson and taught in the studio I was certified at in Rochester, New York.  I work all these teachings together, letting my breath and body be my guide and supplement it with a meditation practice.  This is my yoga.  It is the single most important thing I do to heal and reconnect with Self.
