Description of Classes
Open Yoga (all levels)
This is a joyful class that combines classic postures, flow, alignment, meditation and breath. Sessions often pursue a particular theme or idea with the goal of developing a deeper mind-body experience. Variations of poses are presented for all levels.
"Relax & Renew" Restorative Yoga (all levels)
Taking time out each day to relax and rejuvenate is essential to well being. This nurturing yoga practice focuses on restorative postures designed to gently stretch and rehabilitate the muscles and joints. Coupled with deep breath work, "Relax and Renew" soothes the nervous system and quiets the mind.
Gentle Yoga (all levels)
Gentle Yoga is a class suited for ALL LEVELS of experience. Beginners and experienced practitioners can expect gentle stretching, basic yoga postures, informative instruction on the use of props and breath work.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga (experience recommended)
This popular evolving style of yoga is a breath inspired journey combining
fluid movement and total body awareness. Centered around the classic Sun Salutation, each Flow Yoga class is an experience of cleansing the body
and recharging it with vital energy by linking together invigorating standing
poses, balances, back bends, twists and inversions. This "meditation in
motion" encourages the body and the mind to expand, develop and strengthen.
Suited for students with a working knowledge of basic yoga poses and sun salutations and free from major injury.
Slow Flow
This class will flow slowly through classic yoga postures, including sun salutations, standing and balancing poses, followed by floor work. We will use the breath to flow mindfully, connecting each pose to the next with awareness, while uniting the mind and body as we stretch, strengthen, energize, and relax. Variations and modifications will be given for all levels, although some experience is recommended.
Yoga for Daily Living
This practice encourages us through breath work and basic postures often presented in simple flows to unwind and rekindle ease and peace both with our bodies and ourselves. The breath work and asana sequences will be used to explore, discover and experience the wholeness of life within and without. Each class will be framed with a thought, an idea or a theme that participants will then be invited to explore in their individual practice. All levels are welcome and the informative use of props and pose variations will be covered in order to maximize individual experience.
Teenie Yogini - Yoga for girls (ages 3-5)
Lil' Yogi Kids Yoga is a fun, creative approach to traditional yoga.
The use of animated poses and basic stretching promote strength,
exibility, coordination and overall body awareness. Breathing and
visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop
self control. In a fun, safe environment your child will gain inner
strength and condence, learn about animals, nature and basic
anatomy using interactive games, music, storytelling and play! Ages 3-5.
Happy Hour Yoga
Start your weekend relaxed and energized with a 'happy hour yoga class'. Class might be energetic and upbeat or relaxed and chill, according to the energy of the day and the group. Either way you will leave feeling happy and relaxed, ready for sunset or however you like to head into your weekend. Class is followed by an optional 'traditional' happy hour... bring your own beer or wine (BYOB) to share at the studio or we may want to head out to a local AMI gathering place (bar) and enjoy the company of Lia and fellow students. Open to all levels.
Nia Joy of Movement Class
Nia is an empowering and energizing movement practice to develop flexibility, agility, mobility, strength, and stability while having fun and finding joy in the body you have NOW. As Christiane Northrup says, “I just love Nia! It is a total mind, body, spirit celebration.” A Nia class draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts to create an active barefoot moving meditation experience. You are invited to try a class, dance to soul stirring music and feel your mind, body, and spirit move into the universal sensation of joy! Your Nia class is adaptable for all ages and abilities and EveryBody is welcome in Nia class!
TAI CHI (Chen style) Beginner/Intermediate
The class is designed to strengthen and balance the body, clear the mind, and calm the spirit. Through awareness and a simple set of Qi Gong practices (system and methods of energy cultivation), along with basic stretching exercises, we build a foundation - learning to move in a more connected way. New sections of the form will be taught to the group each week, with individual assistance provided.
Zumba
Zumba combines upbeat Latin and pop rhythms with variations of basic dance moves to create an exciting fitness experience. It is an hour long cardio workout with some basic strengthening built in. The music and moves are introduced in a way that allows everyone, from the most basic beginners to the most advanced dancers, to feel the music, move, and have more fun working out than you may have imagined you could!
